The timeless combination of earth and community is what draws me to adobe.  A mud wall, a massive church or a simple home along a tiny rio represents a community in harmony who uses the earth itself to define the space and landscape of its beliefs and identity.   It is the sense of community and the joy that results from the safety of belonging that drives my use of high key colors rather than earth tones. The emotional context of what I paint or weave from clay, then,  is not an objective reality but rather  the boundaries between earth and sky that is filled with family and  friends  who share a common vision and a unique reliance upon mud and straw for  sanctuary and comfort.  I choose to celebrate this remarkable synthesis by compressing earth structures into proximity and vibrant colors to create  a  festival symbolic of the relationship between southwestern peoples and their blessed earth.
